cant load OS with XP host

I have installed VB on XP Home edition.
tried to run the Linux Forum CD to install Mint. I failed to get the CD running in VB. It would only open in the host. I tried all combinations in Settings.
When I tried to run Hardy using an iso file in the VB It said I should change my colour setting from 16bit to 32 bit but I was already on 32. It said it had detected new hardware (VB) and wanted to look for drivers for it. The mouse stopped working so I was stuck. I even had to switch off power on one occasion.

Which Version of VirtualBox?

How exact have you burned the CD?

2.0.2-36488-Win_x86
The CD came with Linux Format magazine. I have used it sucessfully with my other installation of VB (linux version) on Hardy Heron.
