After applying an OS update my VM crashed and now won't start

Post by rocky_mtn_man »

The update overlaid a new OS, 4.1.12-124.48.31el7uek.x86_64, but Oracle goofed
and did not include the kernel headers package for this update. The result was an error message
on startup and all I could get was a single terminal, but guest additions weren't working.

Today it won't even start. Fortunately I managed to get the important data off it before it went kaput.

If anyone works for Oracle on this forum that has the ability to raise a service ticket for this issue
it might save other people from this disaster.
