VirtualBox won't start (no GUI)

Post by MarcoF »

Upon starting VB, I get 3 processes running indefinitely (VB Global Interface, VB Interface, VB Manager),
but no GUI and no icon in the taskbar.

Setup:
- VB 6.1.18-142142
- Windows 10 Pro 10.0.18363
- Ryzen CPU

Actions taken:
- Uninstalling + rebooting + reinstalling as admin
- Moving/renaming .VirtualBox folder

Is there a log file where VB writes down what's wrong with it?
Thanks for any suggestion.

Try "C:\Users\{you}\.Virtualbox\VboxSVC.log" (Note the period in the folder name). Please zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Also try this:
reboot the host so no Virtualbox processes are running.
moving the whole "C:\Users\{you}\.Virtualbox" folder to the desktop.
Start Virtualbox again.

Thanks for your reply.

I moved the ".VirtualBox" folder and rebooted.
When restarted, VB just created an empty ".VirtualBox" folder (no log in it).
Still no GUI and no taskbar icon.

I'm attaching the latest log in the old ".VirtualBox" folder.

I don't see what might cause the main Virtualbox window to not open. Unless it is opening off-screen. Can you zip and post the file 'Virtualbox.xml' in the same folder?

I'm attaching VirtualBox.xml.

Remember that is the old one.
After moving the .VirtualBox folder, the new folder is empty
(that is, when I start VB, the folder stays empty).

Perhaps I should mention I upgraded Windows to 10.0.19042.
