When checking the network from Windows Control Panel it states that Host only is enabled.
I have not been able to make any connection between the 2 programmes.
Shared clipboard is operational.
I would like 2 way file sharing but do not need Win XP to access the internet.
Any pointers would be welcome.

Re: File transfer from guest Win XP to host Win Vista
It would be helpful to mention VirtualBox version, and whether the Vista host is 32bits or 64bits. AFAIR VirtualBox has not supported Vista hosts since v5.0.0, and 32bit hosts have not been supported since v6.0.0 I think. But you'd know this because the installer would refuse to run.

My guess is that the problem is not with Windows filesharing, but with your host only network (and its DHCP service).
I would remove the host only network and start again.
