[Solved] Problem is running in software rendering mode.

Post by Leloup78 »

Bonjour,

Message I have on a popup window. :!:
"Cinnamo is currently running without video hardware acceleration and as a result you may experience much higher CPU usage than normal. There could be a problem with the drivers or some other problem. For an optimal experience, it is recommended to use only this mode for troubleshooting purposes."

Display is set with the graphic controller: VMSVGA, whether the VMSVGA acceleration is ticked or not. :?
I had a similar problem some time ago but I don't know how to solve it anymore.
Moreover, it is not possible to choose another graphic controller like VBoxSVGA, VBoxVGA without get any error message.

Host is Wondows 10
Guest is Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon or Linux Mint Debian. Same error for both guests.

Do you have any idea what causes this problem? :?:
How to solve it? :?:

Regards,
Leloup

You need to enable 3D in the VirtualBox Display Settings for this VM. Cinnamon Desktop (Linux Mint?) needs that setting enabled, but most other Linux Desktops don't.

Thank you multiOS for your message

In fact, 3D is enabled in the Machine Manager of VirtualBox. This is confirmed in the VBox.log:
VMSVGA3dEnabled = 0x00000000001
Nevertheless, the popup window about rendering mode is still present.

3D also needs working Guest Additions in the VM. Linux distros often pre-install their fork of Guest Additions, which are often very much out of date. And with 3D enabled the Guest Additions should be up to date.

See https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04. ... ions-Linux and https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq

Bonjour Scottgus1

Thank you for your message and helps
The last version of VirtualBox has been downloaded. 6.1.18 replaces 6.1.14. The Guest Additions are installed again.
Problem is solved.
