Hello all, I am new to the VM scene. I am currently in school and will be using VMs. I have been trying to set up a VM on my computer to run Windows 7. I currently have Windows 10 home.
When I try to run my ISO file for the first start up to install Windows 7 on my vdi, the VM lags extremely bad and loads so very slow to the point where I can not even install the OS. I have enabled virtualization on my BIOS and do not have Hyper-V enabled. I have and i5-7400 (4 core) and 24GB of ram so I don't believe that it's my PC that's the issue. I am running the latest version of Virtual Box.

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log and the hardening log next to it, zip them, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Hyper-v is enabled on the PC. That blocks VirtualBox and causes the lag. If you want to use VirtualBox you need to properly disable Hyper-v. Read the final post in FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests. In particular note the instruction concerning "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off".
