Can someone help me to configure correctly Virtualbox ?

Thank you

You need to provide the operating system you are going to run in Virtualbox. Download an ISO of the OS you want.

Linux OS's can be run for free. Windows OS's can be run for a certain amount of time for testing. Mac OS's are not allowed unless your physical computer is Apple hardware OSX guests on non-Apple hardware. Other OS's can be tried too.

See section 1 in the Virtualbox manual.

Hello

I've installed Virtualbox on a machine running Windows 10 Home Edition ( 20H2 ).

I just wanted to test this software : virtualisation of Windows XP.

Can you help me to do this ?

Best regards.

Do you have an official Microsoft XP CD or a ISO file copy of such a CD?

After you read section 1 of the manual we'd be happy to help you in any questions you may have.

Hello

Here is what I've done :
- New
name ==> WindowsXP
machine folder ==> D:\Machine virtuelle
Type ==> Microsoft Windows
Version ==> Microsoft XP (64-bit)

Memory size : 512MB
Create a virtual hard disk now

VDI ( Virtual Disk Image )

Dynamically allocated

After that, I have a windows with file location and size of Virtual hard disk.

I click on "create"

Now the Virtual machine is created.

In the left pane, I have the name of the VM machine : WindowsXP ==> Powered Off

I Start this VM, and now I have a message "Select start-up disk" ( Please select a virtual optical disk or a physical optical drive containing a disk to start your new virtual machine from.) I just have Host Drive 'E' ( This letter is allocated to DVD reader in Windows 10 ).

I click on "start" and I have a window "Oracle Virtual box 6.1" and after that a window "WindowsXP [running ] - Oracle VM virtualbox with a message "FATAL No bootable medium found! System halted"

Can you tell me where I've made errors ?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

I've inserted the CD of installation Windows 7

For the first launch of the VM, I've chosen "Host drive 'E' and after I've click on "Start" Virtual Box is running and I can install Windows 7.

In the previous things I've done, there was no disc in DVD reader enable to install Windows 7.

Best regards

A couple of things:

XP 64-bit was a truly rare beast. I am not certain if the much more common XP 32-bit will run in an XP 64-bit VM, but it would be a good idea to confirm if you actually have a 32 or 64-bit XP and match the VM version to the bittedness of the installation media.

You probably did not have the XP CD in the computer's CD drive.

Now you've got it!

However, I don't know how that Windows 7 will perform in an XP VM. Better to make a new VM set to Windows 7, and match the bittedness.

Best regards
