Graphical issues with Kubuntu 20.04

Post by Apeirologue »

I have this issue where if I switch to 3d acceleration with VMSVGA, I get a bunch of black glitches developing on the screen. Similarly, when I turn it off and swap to VboxVGA/SVGA/VMSVGA, I get an incredibly slow os that takes forever to load anything. Any ideas as to what would be causing this issue? I've updated my GPU drivers and still no luck.

I've also tried it with Zorin & KDE Neon and had the same problems, so I don't think it's a corrupted OS.

Specs: Windows 10
Ryzen 3600
32GB 3200mhz
RX 5700xt
B450i from Aorus

Running the latest version of VBox

Please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Hyper-V needs to be disabled. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).

Also your VM has the Ubuntu fork of Guest Additions installed. Uninstall these and install the version that comes with Virtualbox, see the manual section 4.

This fixed the slowness issue for me when I disabled 3d accel, but when I switch to VMSVGA with 3d on I still get the black graphical glitches.

You still have the fork Guest Additions (6.1.10) installed. It is not enough to insert the GAs CD, you have to install the contents.

And please people stop assigning all your CPU cores to the VM. In your case 2 cores is fine. 6 cores leaves none for the host.

Is there a guide on how to uninstall the fork GAs before I install via the disk I tried using this guide, https://askubuntu.com/questions/954376/ ... -additions, but it didn't work as there's no VBoxGuestAdditions-<version_number> in my /opt folder.

Edit, was able to find my way around it. I now have 6.1.18 installed from the CD
