oh crap ... things were going fine and then I guess there was some update that broke my VM.

I get this ...

Check that your extension Pack version matches your Virtualbox version.

does this appear to show that I need to install a newer Ext Pack?

Thought I would follow up to thank you for the suggestion and nudge to do my own digging.
Figured out (thanks to the web) how to install the latest extension pack and that solved the issue.
