[Solved] Ubuntu screen on virtualbox on windows host

Post by rrocafort »

Hello

I have a simple question. I installed virtual box on windows vista home premium. I am running ubuntu as guest OS. the screen is very small. when I go to full mode, it does not occupy the whole screen. the ubuntu interface does not change size, leaving me a black screen and ubuntu in the middle. the software keeps saying that adjust to 32 bit color, but I don't know how.
How can I make the ubuntu screen large enough so that i occupies the whole screen so that it looks like I am running ubuntu as the main OS?

Thanks

unable to install guess additions on ubuntu on Vbox

Post by rrocafort »

Hello

Thanks for responding quickly
I am running Windows vista as Host and ubuntu as guest OS. I read all the user manual, and was unable to install the guest additions. it gives me a mesage that unable to proceed needs administrative privileges. I have tried administration log in windows, permissions etc.. I am still unable to install
Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Thanks

guest additions get installed to your guest, not your host.

You need to install them on your ubuntu system

Ubuntu Screen Resolution

Post by rrocafort »

Hello
Thanks for reply

I was able to install guest additions, I to enable root as user and had no problems

The screen resolution went from 800x640 to 1024 x 768. How can I get it to 1280 x 800?

thanks

You can get that resolution if you go to full screen and the Auto-Resize is on. When you change the size of the Guest Window, it will resize automatically to fit the window. So you will get custom resolutions with that setup.

I can't thank you enough, for helping me to find a solution. it was so simple, and I was complicating myself to the point of having a heart attack. I am new in ubuntu, and trying to learn everything I can. I don't work today. and I have been all day on the internet searching for a solution since this morning.

Thank you
