Having trouble recently with W10 Guest and Host

Post by scottod »

I have Windows 10 VM on a Windows Host

Now when I boot up I get the initial W10 screen that you click to make the login box appear, however when I click on the screen nothing happens so I cant login? Any tips on how to debug? Might be stuck on the windows update

Please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log.

Search the far left tab's log for this text:

Attempting fall back to NEM

If you find it, Hyper-V is enabled and needs to be disabled. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active). Version 6.1.16 might fix this. If you're on an earlier version, try it.

If you don't find that text, save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

thanks.... it eventually loaded but running super slow (not usable) - it may have done a WIndows update but still not on 20H2, I think 2004 - just did a reboot

I have and had Hyper-V unchecked in Windows Features on the host

I did notice that line though

I have this error repeating which is causing the log file to be over 128kb attachment limit
10:19:48.213706 ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80bb0005) aIID={10cd08d0-e8b8-4838-b10c-45ba193734c1} aComponent={MouseWrap} aText={Could not send the mouse event to the virtual mouse (VERR_PDM_NO_QUEUE_ITEMS)}, preserve=false

The tutorial covers how to get that line to go away.

Instructions need to be followed:

Hyper-v is enabled. Follow the FAQ, there's a reason we call it that!

Of course I would not have known about that error to look for in the faq if it was not for help in this thread

I followed the tutorial , I still have "Hyper-V Host Compute Service" running in task manager after restart

My VM booted. I will see how it works out.

The silver bullet is the bcdedit command in an Admin command prompt.
