USB device detection completely broken on Windows 10 with VBox

As soon as I start the VirtualBox manager GUI, my Windows 10 host stops detecting freshly dis/connected USB devices. I don't have to run any VMs and I have no global filters. I have installed:

Code: Select all

PS C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox> .\VBoxManage.exe -version
6.1.16r140961
PS C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox> .\VBoxManage.exe list extpacks
Extension Packs: 1
Pack no. 0: Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
Version: 6.1.16
Revision: 140961
Edition:
Description: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure integration, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 Host Controller, Host Webcam, VirtualBox RDP, PXE ROM, Disk Encryption, NVMe.
VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP
Usable: true
Why unusable:
I watched my VBoxSVC.log, and it had no additional messages after initialization, no matter what USB plugging / unplugging I did.

I notice that the changelog has a recent entry that sounds modestly related:
USB: Mask out remote wake capability to avoid unresponsive devices
FWIW, I tried installing 6.0.x latest as well, and it provoked the same misbehavior.

Then I tried re-installing without USB support, and it doesn't cause the problem anymore. I wonder if perhaps it could be the NoMachine that I have installed... I notice that it does have a small tree of "NoMachine USB Host Adapter" in the device manager...

Makes sense, don't look at USB, no problems with USB

"Nomachine" appears to be a remote desktop app with a USB redirector. Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling Virtualbox with USB support?
