I tried installing the newest expansion pack (yes, on the newest version of virtual box) and I keep[ getting this problem. I tried anything I copuld find on the forums so far (such as using command prompt, running as administrator, disabling firewall and antivirus, but nothing helped. If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix this issue please let me know.

Failed to install the Extension Pack D:/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-6.1.16.vbox-extpack.

The installer failed with exit code 1: VBoxExtPackHelperApp.exe: error: Internal executable does reside under RTPathAppPrivateArch.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ExtPackManagerWrap
Interface: IExtPackManager {70401eef-c8e9-466b-9660-45cb3e9979e4}

This is the error that I get.

These will mean something different shortly. And they might mean something different now. Can you please elucidate?

What I meant is that I've read from the forums that this sort of problem may be caused because of a different version of virtual box than the expansion pack for it. So to elaborate, both my Virtual box and the expansion pack for it are the same version which is 6. 1. 16.

OK, that's good. Yes Virtualbox and EP version must match.

It is interesting that your EP download file is in the root of the D drive:

Maybe there's a glitch in the Virtualbox code.

First please open Virtualbox by right-clicking the icon and Run As Administrator, even if you already have Admin privileges. (Installing the EP requires write permissions in the Virtualbox install folder, which is by default in C:\Program Files, which requires Run As Admin privileges.)

If that doesn't work, could you please try moving the file into a subfolder on the D drive, not the root? And if that doesn't work, then try moving it to a public folder on the C drive (C:\Users\Public always works for me.) Be sure Virtualbox is running as Admin each time.
