Cannot Uninstall!

Hi there 
I am having major problems on my ubuntu 20.10 install.
I ran the uninstall (from the downloaded .deb) when I had Virtualbox open, by mistake. Now it still shows up as installed and I can't uninstall at all. I am totally lost. I really don't want to have to reinstall my system.
I have tried -
sudo apt-get remove --purge virtualbox
sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-\*
sudo apt-get purge virtualbox-\*
Help would be appreciated!
