Carefully go through USB basics and troubleshooting. If you finish all the steps 1-7 and cannot get your USB device into the guest OS, carefully post the outputs of the commands in step 8 as text in

Code: Select all

 tags, not screenshots. Zip and post the logs step 8 call for, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice.

Host - Ubuntu 20.04 desktop
Guest VM - Ubuntu 20.04 desktop
Scanner - Epson Perfection 3490 photo

I ran Ubuntu 20.04 desktop VM as a test first.

1)
I followed below document installing simple-scan on the Host. Now the scanner works on the Host;
How to: get your Epson Perfection 3490 scanner working on Ubuntu Linux
http://www.autodidacts.io/how-to-get-epson-perfection-3490-flatbed-scanner-working-on-ubuntu-linux/

2)
I ran same steps installing simple-scan on the VM

Start -> simple-scan
Right-click USB icon at the right bottom bar and check "EPSON Scanner [2586]"

Then Scanning works on VM.

I'll come back after testing on Windows 10 home VM. I have no idea of its scanning software. I'm now searching for it.

Regards

Hi,

Epson scanner doesn't work on Win 10 home guest

Start Win 10 home guest

Right-click USB icon at the right bottom of Guest window
-> Select "Epson Scanner [0110]"

Start -> Settings -> Devices
Printer & Scanner
Add Printers & Scanners
-> Refresh

No scanner detected

Where shall I check? Do I need install Epson Scan package?

Regards

Drivers for a USB device need to be installed in the computer running the device, whether the computer is real or virtual.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice.

I got it done after installing;
Epson Perfection 3490 Photo Scanner

Code: Select all

1. Scanner Driver
2. EPSON Scan Utility v3.04A - software
(check) "Epson Scanner [0110]" (USB icon at the right bottom menu of VM window)

But the EPSON Scan window is very small, even at Full Screen (3840x2160 resolution). I can't resize it. Any suggestion?

Thanks

Regards

Glad you have the scanner running.

For the tiny window, find out what program is showing that window, then in the program's Properties, Compatibility Tab, click 'Change high DPI settings', then adjust the controls inside that button's popup window to try to get the window to show bigger.

right-click "EPSON Scan" icon
-> Properties
(see screeshot_1)
-> Compatibility
(see screeshot_2)
-> Change high DPI settings
(see screeshot_3)

How to change here? I'm only allowed to upload 3 files.

"EPSON Scan Properties window"
C:\Windows\twain_32\escndv\escndv.exe

Thanks

Regards

I don't know. You'll have to experiment and web-search. This question is now into Windows usage which happens on real PCs too, and is beyond the scope of the Virtualbox forum.

Problem solved and now I can resize Epson Scan window.

Steps performed as follows;
Start Win10 home guest

Right click "Epson Scan" icon
-> Compatibility
-> Change high DPI settings

-> Open Advanced scaling settings

Let Windows try to fix apps so that they're not blurry
(check) Off

Enter a custom scaling
100% - 500% (not recommended)
[200]
-> Apply

The custom scale factor won't be applied until you sign out
-> Sign out now

rebooted automatically.

After reboot I got a large "Epson Scan" window
