Re: USB on virtualbox
Take a look at the user manual, section "3.7.7 USB support",Chamillionaire wrote:ok how do i make my virtual pc [XP] see all my usb things that i plug in?
User manual is available here: http://virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

USB support in WinXP guests.
While the manual does discuss this topic I have never had any success getting my Windows guest to see my USB devices. (I am on Linux host.) Linux kernel always seems to capture my USB device and, try as I may, I have been unable to have the Linux kernel "give up" the device so that windows XP can see it.
I have tried to get both a Webcam and a printer connected to my WinXP guest, but have never succeeded. A search of "USB" on this forum will show that others have had problems too. From some posts it seems may be windows hosts are better at passing USB devices to other windows and linux guests, there may be even a graphical interface to manage this, but I don't know if that works well or not. ANyway, for Linux host and XP guest, no joy here, otherwise VirtualBox is great.

What I found you have to do is 1) make sure you're using the version of VBox that supports USB (PUEL or SUN), and 2) setup the USB filters BEFORE you start you're VM.
I can use my HP PSC1210 and my thumbdrive in my XP VM, but so far the webcam isn't working. One thing I have noticed is that in order to use my printer in my Kubuntu host, I have to disable the printer in my VM. I don't know why that is, but that's what I have to do.

Webcam is a current limitation. It's known by the developers.
