CD ISO image does not unmount

I am installing sol10u5 in a vm. After booting from the iso image and running the install, I need to un-mount the CD and re-boot. Without a CD image attached, the vm should boot from the vm vdisk. However, even though the vm settings show no cd mounted, it reboots from the previously mounted cd and trys to re-run the install.
This happened twice before I realised what was happening.
To work around, I pressed F12 at the virtualbox bios splash screen and selected the hard disk.
I do not understand why the vm was behaving as if the iso was still mounted when the vbox settings showed no disk/image attached. This happened in 1.6.x and in 2.0.2, which I upgraded to, in case it was fixed.

So did I understand you correct that you used a CD image and not a physical drive? So yes, if the CDROM icon at the bottom right of the machine window shows that there is no image attached, the image should be actually disconnected.

That's right, I was using a CD image during the initial install phase, then I unmounted it on the vm window menu, then I rebooted. Instead of booting from the system vdisk, it rebooted from the iso image, which should not have been possible.

To be sure: After unmounting the CD image, the icon at the right bottom of the VM window did not show a mounted image anymore?

It did show activity but it shouldn't have because I had (tried to) un-mounted it and the vb manager showed no attached image.

The manager does not reflect what ISO/CD you have currently mounted, only what you have mounted through the settings. Use the Devices menu or right click on the CD icon to unmount the ISO/CD.

Aahhh! Obviously. That's not at all misleading, is it??!

I think that I did that as well, during one of my many repeated initial installs, but I can't say for sure.

It would be a good thing to grey out, mark as 'unknown', or something, the CD field in the settings display for the vm. The current situation is quite mis-leading given that other parts of the settings for the vm, e.g. the state, change to reflect the vm and can be controlled from the settings gui.
