Ubuntu 20.04 (guest) boot issue on Windows 10 (host) machine

Hi all,

My Ubuntu 20.04 virtual machine is not booting from my Windows 10 Home host machine. I am running VirtualBox 6.1.12.

I am not sure what caused it as I went to sleep with it working fine and woke up in the morning with it not. I noticed when I first tried to open the VM up in the morning that the boot procedure was taking longer than normal but I wasn't really paying attention as I was focused on my other computer at the time.

Now when I try to start the VM it opens the GRUB terminal where I get the following message:
error: unknown filesystem.
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue>
I have done some research on this issue however I get a "Filesystem is unknown" message on all partitions using the "ls" command. I also tried to use the Boot-Repair-Disk tool to fix this which found nothing to fix on the virtual system (I can provide the log if need be).

Does anyone know what could be the issue here? Is this a VirtualBox problem or am I looking in the wrong place?

I can provide more information if need be. Appreciate any help!

Cheers,
Jason
