Audio announcement of turning off screen [solved]

Post by harald123 »

When screensaver is done on the Linux guest, there is an audio announcement of it, which I would like to turn off (in another way than turning off sound in Windows).

I searched in Linux control panel and in the VBoxManage commands and found some audio settings.

Is it possible to do something like:

Code: Select all

VBoxManage modifyvm
and one of these

Code: Select all

[--audio none|null|dsound|oss|alsa|pulse|
                                     oss|pulse|coreaudio]
                            [--audioin on|off]
                            [--audioout on|off]
                            [--audiocontroller ac97|hda|sb16]
                            [--audiocodec stac9700|ad1980|stac9221|sb16]
to turn that announcement off?

When running

Code: Select all

 VBoxManage showvminfo LMint19
it shows these options are enabled:
Audio: enabled (Driver: DSOUND, Controller: AC97, Codec: STAC9700)
Audio playback: enabled
Audio capture: enabled

Thank you.

'vboxmanage modifyvm' only changes the guest's hardware, same as changing the settings of the guest in the main Virtualbox window. 'modifyvm' does not change things the guest's OS tries to do.

Changing '--audio' settings affects the virtual audio card and whether the virtual audio cables are plugged in.

If this means you want to not turn off sound in the guest OS, as in leaving the sound in place and playing, and only prevent the host OS from playing it, you can disable audio output in the guest. Leave the audio card enabled. This can be done in the main Virtualbox window, or with:

vboxmanage modifyvm "vm name" --audioout off

thank you, I have tried this and it indeed turns of the audio coming from the Linux guest.
Problem is it turns off the entire audio - I actually search for a setting that turns only that announcement off. Is it possible that this is a setting inside the guest OS rather than a VBox setting?

Correct. Look inside the guest OS to turn that off.

solved it by deactivating an option called translated 'disable screen reader' from the accessibility icon on the locked screen.
