So i'm trying to play an old cd rom game using virtualbox, but the game tells me to insert the cd even though i have.
My pc is using windows 10 and the virtual machine is on windows XP. I'm using Version 6.0.24 r139119 of virtualbox because the newer versions wont work for some reason, but please don't try to help me get a newer version cause im pretty sure it won't help. I'm pretty sure I have guest additions installed already, but not host extensions.
I'm pretty sure i know what the problem is but not quite sure how to fix it, im using CD passthrough and the cd is on E: but the cd drive is on F:, so im looking to somehow get the cd in F: instead of E:.

Re: CD-ROM game can't find the CD
This is what I was going to suggest.abbe04 wrote:im using CD passthrough
The XP guest's CD drive is a separate 'drive' from the host's physical CD drive. The drive letters can be different. If you open the guest's CD drive and see the host CD drive's contents, then your guest OS is seeing the host's CD drive even if the drive letters are different.abbe04 wrote:the cd is on E: but the cd drive is on F:
FWIW it is likely we could help you troubleshoot the later-versions problem, but if you don't want to bother that's OK, too. XP should be stable enough in 6.0.x. And if you're using 3D acceleration in the XP guest then you're right, you cannot go beyond 6.0.x.
