Hi all, my client has been running XP 32 Bit under Virtual Box 5.x for many years, on a Windows 10 host, without issue. It's used solely to run an Artwork program called Casmate, and over the years there would be thousands of image files there.
Then the PC crashed...
I copied the Virtual box files (all of them from both folders) made adjustments to the startup such as USB and Serial Port information just to get back into the VBox so I could look for those files from Casmate.
Before copying the VBOX files I could see the files. AFTER copying I cannot find them anywhere. In Virtual Box, the Host C Drive, and a networked drive. I cannot find those files anywhere. I've used many different data corruption and recovery software tools that find thousands of old and deleted files, but not a single Casmate file aside from just the same 26 files over and over again. There are no other files on ANY drive that I can find.
Does Virtual Box 5.2 (current version) have some sort of method to check for corruption? Am I looking in the wrong spot? Any ideas, please.

Re: Lost files in VBOX files
VirtualBox's only 'corruption check' is if the files aren't interpretable by Virtualbox then Virtualbox won't start. Disk corruption is handled by the host OS.BiggyRat wrote:Does Virtual Box 5.2 (current version) have some sort of method to check for corruption?
We don't have enough information to tell how to find your client's Casmate files. You will have to inquire from your client exactly how they used their XP guest, what drive & folder they saved the files in, if they had Virtualbox Shared Folders or real shared folders, drives passed through via USB, etc.
The guest's .vbox file, zipped and posted using the forum's Upload Attachment tab, might help. Also, a list of what files you copied would be helpful.
