Windows 10 20H2 compatibility?
Is the latest version 6.1.16 compatible with Windows 10 20H2 or should I rather wait with the host update from 2004 to 20H2? I found a post saying there are issues. I use Windows 10 guests only.
Thanks.
Thanks.

No insider versions of Windows are supported. That doesn't mean it won't work, it just means that nobody will be interested until they become releases.

There is already official 20H2 release available via Windows Update (no Insider). I was just refering to the known issue found in the Insider version.

Re: Windows 10 20H2 compatibility?
It's only just officially released (20 October) and, as with other recent Microsoft 'major' updates it's only trickling down to users over an extended period to ensure hardware (and other) compatibility issues are caught my Microsoft, so you'll have to wait until it is more generally available to get any reliable feedback.
I've just checked and there is no official ISO available yet but maybe later today, probably part-depending on timezone. I usually use the ISO update method, but only after ensuring restorable backups have been taken, for both real hardware and virtual installations.

And if something is released today it is not likely to be supported today, Gotta give the devs some time...

Re: Windows 10 20H2 compatibility?
20H2 is a minor upgrade and I have been running it with VirtualBox 6.1.14 with no problems on my test machine. I don't expect any problems with 6.1.16 .
I have now upgraded my main machine as well (20H2 and 6.1.16) and don't expect any problems there either.

A little more info would help. What did you update, the host or the guest? What OS are they running? What update did you install? Perhaps a screenshot?

Understandable. My question was meant to share the user experience as the 20H2 update is already distributed via the Windows Update.scottgus1 wrote:Gotta give the devs some time...

Re: Windows 10 20H2 compatibility?
Availability/Receipt of the Windows 10 20H2 Update is highly dependent on the User hardware and this is intentional on the part of Microsoft, so problems should probably be expected. It also presents problems for third-party app designers/developers, who will obviously need to know what hardware specs are experiencing what problems.
My experience to date with hardware I have ready access to (running VirtualBox 6.1.16):
MacBookPro 2011: Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM(s) cannot receive the Windows 10 update yet.
MacBookPro 2013: Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM(s) cannot receive the Windows 10 update yet.
MacBookPro 2019: Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM(s) cannot receive the Windows 10 update yet.
HP Spectre x360: Neither the 'Host' system, nor a Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM can receive the Windows 10 update yet.
Microsoft Surface Pro 3: The 'Host' system and a linked Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM both received the Windows 10 update and both are working well. No problems
Microsoft Surface Book 1: The 'Host' system and a linked Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM both received the Windows 10 update and both are working well. No problems
Microsoft Surface Book 2: Neither the 'Host' system, nor a Windows 10 Pro 'Guest' VM can receive the Windows 10 update yet.
This will obviously change over the coming weeks/months (according to Microsoft).

Re: Windows 10 20H2 compatibility?
Could people please be clear whether they are talking about the host OS or the the VM?
The fact that the OP posted in "Windows Hosts" makes me assume the former, but I'm not at all sure that applies to some other posts here.

Yes, the 20H2 is available in host only via the Windows Update at the moment.

Re: Windows 10 20H2 compatibility?
If you really want it, you can download the Windows 10 ISO (the October release is now the default) and upgrade your vms. I have. Just run the installer from within the vm and it will do an upgrade install.
