The upper screenshot appears to be stuck while enumerating the files to display in the Windows Select dialog box. Looks like a slow Windows host to me. Try a disk check?

The problem occurs in Windows 10 MMC (Microsoft Management Console), windows explorer browsing files is normal.

I don't see MMC in the screenshots, only Virtualbox windows. The 'Not Responding' window is Virtualbox's 'Please choose a virtual optical disk' window, which is a basic Windows 'open file' dialog box with a customized title. Windows is having trouble filling out the dialog box's various items. At the point in the screenshot Virtualbox has not yet been told what file to try to use. This looks like a Windows problem to me, not a Virtualbox problem.

Compare where Windows seizes up in filling out the box with a 'open file' dialog box from Notepad, and see if the seize up always happens in the same place in the procession of displaying items. Go to that item and disk-check that location.

Or go the location that window wants to open and clear out all files and folders therein, perhaps there is a file Windows is choking on.

I found that browsing .iso files using Hyper-V Manager also stopped responding, so I tested the MMC and the same problem, Or there may be a problem opening the file dialog box. However, Windows File Exploere view .iso files in a folder are normal and do not appear to stop responding.

Look for any software you have installed on the host that may be trying to open ISO files and examine the contents. I'm thinking user enabled malware - sorry, I mean third party AV.

I used to get similar problems at work with any folder that contained a large number of large files. Problem reduced when multiple cores became the norm plus the IT support people ditched the superfluous third party AV.
