Catalina 10.15.7, feels experimental

Post by Jan-Willem »

Hi,

Host hardware: MacBookPro 2020, Catalina 10.15.7
Guest OS: Catalina 10.15.7

Wanted to create a virtual machine to have a sandbox environment, to avoid compromising my host machine.
The installation is quite a lot of work and issues remain.

Installed the GuestAdditions.

Issue: resolution limited to VGA (1024 x 768). Auto resizing does not work. (I found out later this is mentioned in the manual, p 322).
Workaround 1: scale 200 procent. This is a poor workaround.
Workaround 2: set a fixed resolution, see p334 of the manual.

Performance: good enough to browse the web, but that is about it.
Dragging windows around is lagging.

Sound: nope. I gave up.

I have been a long time fan of VirtualBox for Linux virtualization and that really works fine. MacOS virtualization still has a way to go.

regards,
