When the printer is connected. The virtualbox did not run

Post by dvash »

I bought a Kyocera printer
When the printer is connected. The virtualbox did not run
If I disconnect the printer. The virtual immediately begins
I'm not talking to print from the virtualbox
Only the software will load. When the printer is connected to a computer

It appears that your Virtualbox guest will not start if the printer is plugged into the PC.

You probably have a USB filter in the guest that is catching the printer.

Go to the guest's USB settings and uncheck all the USB filters. Then try the guest again.

Please plug in the printer, then provide these two things:

1. Open a command prompt and run these commands:

cd "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox"
vboxmanage list usbhost

Post the text output.

2. Please right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose "Show in Explorer". In the window that opens, zip the guest's .vbox file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

One other thing, can you please right-click the shortcut that does not work when the printer is plugged in, choose Properties, then post the contents of "Target" and "Start in".

You have a USB filter for a device you no longer have connected to the host PC:
<DeviceFilters>
<DeviceFilter name="RICOH IS760 [0123]" active="true" vendorId="05ca" productId="0361" revision="0123" manufacturer="RICOH" product="IS760" remote="0"/>
</DeviceFilters>
If this filter is no longer needed, you can delete it in "DUK70"s USB settings.

This is illuminating. You have a Kyocera device listed:
Manufacturer: Kyocera Corp.
Is the printer you're having trouble with another Kyocera?

Can you also please run this command?
cd "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox"
VBoxManage list usbfilters

Further up, when you tried 'vboxmanage list usbhost', you wrote:

only when I took out the printer connection brought this list
This means to me that you had to unplug the Kyocera to get the vboxmanage command to work. However, the Kyocera shows up in the list, meaning it was plugged in when the vboxmanage command was run.

Am I misunderstanding something?

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage list usbfilters
Global USB Device Filters:

<none>

Theoretically, Virtualbox will not automatically take a USB device that it does not have a filter for.

You don't have a USB filter for the Kyocera printer in the DUK70 guest. You should check your other guests to see that they also don't have filters for the Kyocera printer.

I have not yet seen anything in the Virtualbox settings to show why one guest will not start when the Kyocera printer in plugged in. I don't know what else to do. We will have to wait for a forum guru to see this and offer more help.
