Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
I recently upgraded to v3.04 PUEL (also upgraded the Guest Additions for the same version). Unfortunately I've been experiencing some buggy behaviour with the keyboard input. After some time spent typing, the keyboard input suddenly stops functioning. The leadup goes something like this: moments before keyboard input becomes noticeably laggy, then input momentarily stops, a couple of seconds later what had been typed gets encoded onto the workspace except it has been duplicated several times over - after this keyboard input stops working and requires a reboot to fix.
I've already encountered this thrice in the past hour. The Windows application I had been using all three times was Windows Live Writer.

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
I'm having the same issue. A brand-new install of XP guest, Ubuntu 9.04 host. Keyboard just quits working in guest only. Host is fine. I'm using some CAD software so not typing a lot. Anybody????

Can you share the Host memory and guest setting with us?
Also 32 or 64 bit?

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
Host memory: 3.4G Guest memory: 1.738G (a little less than the 50% warning) Host is Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit, Guest is Win XP Pro SP03.
This is the first time I've seen this behavior. I have another machine running the same setup with the exception of SP03. No problems with it, been running quite a while.

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
I have no idea if this will help you or not, but a long time ago I too had keyboard and mouse problems. I moved them to the PS2 inputs instead of USB and have not had a single problem and that had to be at least a year and a half or more ago. So if you have PS2 inputs you can certainly try that and see if it fixes your problem. Mouse scroll wheel in Linux was a real big problem back them and that is what prompted my to change. I usually have at least 3 Linux VM's running 24/7 with one seamless, just for reference.

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
The host is a Dell 1545 laptop - so no external keyboard. This is a new machine, 2 weeks in service. I have another VM on this machine that functions just fine. I imported it from another Dell laptop. It has not exhibited this problem. The current guest was a clean install of XP, then installed Service Pack 3. I don't know if this is important - I run several XP VM's, none have SP3 installed. I use them as CAD/CAM workstations.
Another observation - when the keyboard is not working, I can minimize the VM then restore, and the keyboard is back.

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
Sorry for the late reply:
Host System: Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, 2 GB RAM
Guest System: XP Pro SP3, 980 MB RAM
The keyboard and mouse are both on a PS/2.
I only encountered this problem after the 3.04 PUEL update.

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
OK the common things are Ubuntu Guests and XP pro for the guests.
So I would suggest that:
You change to the IntelPro/1000 T server for your Virtual Network adapter.
Double check that the guest additions installed correctly by uninstalling them and then install the again and maybe in safe mode.
If this continues to happen you should consider creating a ticket in bugtracker. Remember to send your log files.

Ok thanks for the advice, but how do I send log files and where?

If you open the VBox program and look at the top under machine you will see the logs for the VM.
If you look at the bottom of my post you will see bugtracker. Go there.
You will need to create an account there as it is a different system than ours.

Re: Keyboard input stops functioning on Windows XP Guest
@gorsky,
What has changed between the time it worked and now? Make sure you did not set a USB filter for the keyboard or mouse as these are shared resources.
If this doesn't fix this you need to open a ticket in the MAC as OS host forum.
