Game name (developer, publisher): 9Dragons (Indy21 / Acclaim)
VBox version: 3.0.0 r49315
Video Card: 9800GTX
CPU: AMD X2 x64 6000+
Linux version: Mint 7 x86 / Kernel 2.6.28-13-generic / NVIDIA Drivers 180.xx
Windows version: Windows XP SP3
VBox additions installed? Yes (under Safe Mode)
Workarounds/notes? It helps to disable Compiz, but not much. HOLY HECK is it slow though. With low settings running at 1024x768 in full screen mode, this game gets about 2fps. Mouse integration off seems to make the game lag even worse. With it on, it seems to be random if i have to doubleclick=singleclick in game or not. Other times clicks work just fine. I can get to the character selection, but once it is done loading the terrain and models, it just sits at the loading screen. After a few minutes you can hear things in the background with about a 1 minute delay, but nothing is refreshed on screen. After 5-10 minutes the game is disconnected from the server. I was only able to get into the game world once and move around a bit, but it was very slow....

I'm trying to play RCT2 under VB3.0 on Ubuntu 9.05 in a win2k VM.
I can play this game under wine, except the right click key doesn't work as expected, so I figured VB was the way to go.

Switching on pass through let me install the game, and I can read the manual and README from the RCT2 CD interface, but no luck with playing from here or the installed menu item.
I refurbish machines for the older generation in the digital divide and this game is tops for them. Lots of happy sounds, not too stressful, and runs on cheap older Windows versions that can be snap shotted in a VB Window.

Is the problem due to RCT2 CD copy protection? How can I legally get round this?

Stomfi. I am new to virtual box (as of last night) My girlfriend loves rollercoaster tycoon 2 and has Mac OS X leopard laptop. I install vbox 3 and windows xp onto it.

Had issues with xp key activation (probably because mine is a DELL OEM key for my laptop but she can play for 30 days at least lol) Any pointers on installing windows xp on vbox and activating correctly?

game installed fine. but would not start. I came across a WINE forum where someone claimed you must use a no CD crack for it to work in wine. I downloaded the no CD crack from the link he provided and replaced the main .exe and sure enough it started working. Sounds like vbox needs to work on their cd drive integration.

I'm not sure how "legal" this was but the game was a legit boxed copy so I did it anyway.

One tricky thing, dont turn on the addition for mouse integration that lets you move the mouse in and out of the VM. Right click stopped working because of it.

Not sure what happened to first attempt to post here...

Have had no luck with Version 1.7 of UFO : Afterlight game. Comes up with 796b_appcompat.txt error, so implies incompatible with the video driver in the Virtual Box perhaps? Running Snow Leopard on the IMAC and XP Pro box with latest updates installed.

I got the game started by ran into an Open GL extension problem as documented here http://forum.ufo-aftermath.com/lofivers ... t4252.html.
No idea what the 'shader' issue they are referring to is perhaps the Virtual Box developers can work this out...?

Game name (developer, publisher): Europa universalis iii -in nomine 3.1 (Paradox interactive)
VBox version: 3.0.6
Linux version: ubuntu 9.04
Windows version: Windows XP Professional SP3
VBox additions installed?: Yes
HowTo install/run/uninstall: you need to copy d3dx9_35.dll and 36 to have the game working(like in wine)
Workarounds/notes?:
also, setting your settings.txt, general sound(or whatnot) to -1 is a must. -music lags in this game-

However... the game basically is so slow that it is unplayable.
Honestly if you guys wanna deliver a decent product stay away from wine, do like vmware did and have your own driver/method/whatever.
it takes time but its the only way to compete with such products.

atm virtualbox does a so-so job at virtualization, but i trust sun will help the project grow. i would even consider donating to the project if it ran my games, simply because its free for the personal=home user.

well, thats all for now.
