Networking problems with beta 1 and 2

Post by Pitel »

Host: Ubuntu 9.04 64bit, Intel C2D E8400
Guest: Win XP SP2 32bit, 2 CPUs

Networking works for a while after boot, then it just stops at random point, so I can't download SP3 or Firefox. Same behaviour in beta 1 and 2. Guest is clean installation, same behaviour with or without GA. Shared folders doesn't work too.

I see similar things, but to be more precise networking doesn't stop, try to create a new connection, it will work again

it seems as if virtualbox started either mangling packets or some longer connections are dropped by virtualbox
it's very nice to observe when you have OpenSolaris and try to do pkg image-update to latest dev (internal, set ipkg.sfbay/dev as pkg authority)

funny thing is that kstat shows no dropped bytes, so virtualbox silently corrupts network connectivity ... Frank , can you save us ? :)

cheers

I have the same problems both on Win7 RC 64 and Vista 64 hosts. (using Beta 1 or 2)
Downloading large files (e.g. apt-get install ...) does not work; compiling (huge) files on a remote smb share does not work either. (Ubuntu 9.04 + GA from Beta2; NAT networking, Bridged seems to work)

yeah, NAT, but I guess you know it already, so just confirming the sad truth :)

and tried with both types of network ifaces, so the problem is in some generic code there

thanks in advance for help

another issue with virtual host adaptor. Whilst now IPCONFIG doesn't choke on it, my firewall (bitdefender) does.
On boot, there's a total freeze of the OS for minutes, after which on completion bitdefender everytime asks permission for the actual adaptor to access the internet.

Even when okaying, there's no connection with the router.

Uninstalling the virtual host adaptor returns everything to normal. Maybe an idea to make the virtual host adaptor optional upon installation?
