File sharing between Linux host and Windows guest

Post by kimsg »

I set up folder sharing between Linux host and Windows guest as

http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/VirtualBo ... hard_drive

It seems working "almost" fine as I can see the folders and move into any of them. However, if I tried to open a file with WordPad, it says that it cannot find that file. More puzzling fact is that Notepad can open it without any problem.

This is my second time trying out VirtualBox. Last time, I experienced the same problem with Word or Powerpoint so I went back to VMware. Now, I am giving it another try. Can anyone help me?

Thanks, in advance.

It may be related to file size or memory allocation (since the "small" application notepad seems to work fine). For what it's worth, with a Linux host and Windows Guest I have no problems until the file sizes or file quantity in the shared folder become large.

Known problem with shared folders. Wait for the 1.4.0 release of VBox. (due out soon)

kimsg,

You might want to try setting up a Samba share on your Linux host and accessing it through Windows. It took me a bit of experimentation to get it working (since I hadn't set up a Samba share before--and getting the permissions right can be tricky), but it works great now that everything is set up.
