peclik, are you running a 64 bit guest?

If so, try replacing /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so with /usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so, and check the result again.

My Laptop:

Code: Select all

name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
...
client glx vendor string: SGI
client glx version string: 1.4
client glx extensions:
...
OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 20060815 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 7.3
So, even though I have OpenGL and direct rendering, it's done by Mesa. Reason: the Open Source drivers suck and the ATi drivers itself doesn't work anymore, and won't work on Jaunty for my card (x1400 mobility radeon is no longer supported since 9.4 Catalyst).

No, I run Windows XP 32 as host with Arch Linux x86 (32) as guest.

I fixed it!

Two problems:
  • I had to add my user to the video group. I was getting permission denied errors when I used the debug glxinfo.
  • It's looking for swrast_dri.so in /usr/lib/dri, but it's not there. I made a symlink to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so. I could probably have symlinked the whole directory, but just that one file did it.
It's now working perfectly! :)

Confirmed. OpenGL now works even for me.
Thank you.

But still Xorg on startup complians:

Code: Select all

(EE) AIGLX error: vboxvideo does not export required DRI extension
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

I think everyone's xorg says that in the log. I think it's just some oddity about how the VirtualBox OpenGL driver works.

is all you need? It doesn't have the glx module enabled so I don't understand.

Anyways thats pretty much what my xorg.conf looks like (plus I have some modules enabled) so I have no idea why I don't have OpenGL acceleration.
As you can see the verbosity switch isn't working, so that's probably not so helpful.

My host log, which appears to be saying that OpenGL is enabled.
The GLX modules are loaded automatically by default.
Now, are you sure that you have 2.2.0 AND updated the GA to 2.2.0? Without the new version, it won't have OpenGL.
Yep, I installed the guest additions using the ISO provided by 2.2.0. This Debian guest has been using 2.2.0 from the beginning.

Heh, that happens when you post info which other person was asked for :)
In your case please post, guest os, xorg version, kernel version and /var/log/Xorg.0.log first.
But most likely kernel&xorg are too old in your setup, atleast I'd think so according to mesa 7.0.4 you have in system.
Debian 5, kernel is 2.6.29 (the guest additions told me to update to it), Xorg is update 1.6.1 (it was 1.4.2, just updated. Had to reinstall guest additions after upgrading Xorg)

Since upgrading to 1.6.1, clipboard sharing has stopped working. But thats for another thread.

Here's the new xorg.log, everything looks ok. It does have an error, but its just due to that ATI fake-out thing I think.
