Hello,
Would appreciate some help. I just installed the latest version of Virtualbox (1.6) on a vista Home Premium machine. I have tried everything to make it work. All I get is a blank screen, no errors. I would like to remove it completely from my pc, using add / remove programs. However, I'm getting the following error. "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2738"
Help!
Thanks,
Symon
Removing / Uninstalling Virtualbox from Vista machine
The VirtualBox 1.6.0 installer uses a VBScript custom action which has known problems on Vista. See http://www.joyofsetup.com/2007/06/07/wh ... more-evil/ for workarounds.

Here is the fix so you can uninstall virtual box 1.6 properly in vista
run "regedt32.exe" in dos box then delete these 2 keys below:
"Check that vbscript.dll and jscript.dll aren't registered in HKEY_CURRENT_USER (HKCU), checking for the registry keys below.
* VBScript, HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}
* JScript, HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58}
Remove these keys if they exist in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. "
After I did that, uninstall worked properly.

Hello,
Thanks for all the suggestions, work arounds etc. I became really annoyed, impatient and disappointed with this product, and have decided not to pursue it any further by removing it from my system.
I had major problems uninstalling / removing it from my vista pc. I tried restoring prior to the installation several times, but that too failed. I was ready to trash my brand new computer because I was so mad!
However, consultation with HP Tech Support guided me through successful restoration prior to the installation, using safe mode. I'm a happy camper again.
Cheers!

As soon as v1.6.2 is out, please do the following steps to get a proper uninstall of 1.6.0, if the problem still exists:
- Copy the 1.6.2 VirtualBox.msi to your local disk (say C:\VirtualBox.msi)
- Open a command line window
- Go to C:\ ("cd C:\")
- Run command "msiexec /fv VirtualBox.msi"
This should replace the 1.6 uninstaller with the fixed 1.6.2 one. After that, uninstallation should work as expected.

Hello,
I deleted the 2 keys:
* VBScript, HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}
* JScript, HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58}
and the uninstall process worked allright. Thank you
Now is it necessary to reimport those 2 keys into the register ?
Ph.C.

Re: Removing / Uninstalling Virtualbox from Vista machine
I figured how to uninstall it (version 2.2). I just went into add and remove and did a repair of installation and rebooted computer and then tried uninstalling again and it worked.
