Ubuntu guest, isight-firmware-tools and VirtualBox... HELP!

Post by tommed »

Hi Guys,

I have seen on the internet people using isight-firmware-tools to get the built-in isight camera on my MacBook working from within a Guest linux OS. However I am unable to get my camera recognised on my MacBook. :(

This topic describes how to do it in Fedora: http://www.derekhildreth.com/blog/fedor ... -51-guide/

I am running a minimal version of Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid as a guest (with the OpenBox window manager).
- I have extracted the isight.fw from AppleUSBVideoSupport and have checked that it is in /lib/firmware.
- I have rebooted
- I can see the iSight camera using lsusb (listed as:

Code: Select all

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05ac:8501 Apple, Inc. Built-in iSight (Micron)
)
- However, I have no entries in /dev for video (iow:

Code: Select all

ls /dev/video*
returns nothing)

If anyone could help me get this working I would be ever-so greatful as I currently working on a opencv project (so having a camera would be extremely helpful!!) :)
Many Thanks & Kind Regards,
Tom

did you try going to port settings in host virtual box and enabling it and adding a filter with isight....

that should work since you already have the drivers

Unfortunately Yes I have; VirtualBox settings look like this:

I also have no errors in dmesg.
I also tried installing on a vanilla install of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, and still could not get it to work.

Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Tom
