Black screen when loading .vmwarevm disk image [Resolved]
Hi there, i did look to see if this topic was covered before, but couldn't find a solution that addressed this problem directly.
I followed the procedure of deleting the <name>.vmwarevm extension and accessed the .vmdk file. Windows starts to load but i never see a windows logo. I checked to see if information was being read from the virtual disk, and it appears so, but it stalls within a few seconds. Any ideas?
John

PIIX 4 for IDE Adapter can solve the Problem.

You can try PIIX 3 intsead. If its not running, play with the options apic, acpi, vt. Disable all, Enable all, only one and so on.

Re: Black screen when loading .vmwarevm disk image
Well its closer. Enabling the IO APIC gets me to the windows logo but I get a bluescreen after that and it continually reboots. I tried different combinations of settings and alternating between PIX 3 & 4 to no avail. I look at other threads about this but they all were based on an initially successful install. Any other ideas?
I appreciate you help

Re: Black screen when loading .vmwarevm disk image
I tried but no I cannot. I would really like to try this software, but i really do not want to have to re install all of my software to do it.

Before powering down the vmware VM did you follow the guidelines for conversion to vbox? if not you might not ever get it to boot.

Re: Black screen when loading .vmwarevm disk image
I'm afraid i didnt read about any guidelines but i can still mount the disk in Vmware so if there is something i need to do its still ok. I checked all the FAQs before i started this and i didnt read anything special about formatting the image (this version was supposed to be able to mount a .vmdk file directly right? )
UPDATE:
I reloaded the image into VMware and i uninstalled the VMTools application. I also reset the .vmdk to 1 file vs split and it is still giving me the same error. Is there anything else i missed?

Re: Black screen when loading .vmwarevm disk image
What error exactly are you getting? you could try the repair option from the windows install CD.

Re: Black screen when loading .vmwarevm disk image
It was hard to catch because it disappears so fast but here is a screenshot:
I loaded the recovery disk and am running a CHKDSK analysis. I'll post the results when its done.
UPDATE: I ran the CHKDSK and it repaired some errors but the blue screen still comes up. I am going to do a full repair install and see if that fixes it.

The top 5 here are usually enough to fix this, depending what exactly has happened.
