My Ubuntu virtual box installation with very important data is on a separate partition. I reformatted the host, reinstalled windows. Copyed old .virtualbox file to new users directory. When starting my old ubuntu, I get an error:
PIIX3 cannot attach drive to the Secondary Master (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER).
Unknown error creating VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER).
Result code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole (e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496e53e)
Major startup issue!

You get this error when the VMM's Pluggable Driver manager attempts to attach your 3rd IDE HDD to the VM and this fails. I suggest that you go into the VBox GUI and navigate through the IDE settings -> Disk Manager and ensure that you have rw access to each drive and that the address is correct. If not then release the defined drive and use the Add Disk + file browser to select the correct location.

Problem was already solved Terry. The error usually is when there is an invalid CD/DVD attached to the VM. Secondary Master is the CD/DVD driver afteral.
Because it's fixed, it will be locked.
