VM won't start

Post by joelbon »

I have installed Windows 7 and Windows xp on a VM in a Vista Home Premium Host. I am using virtualbox 2.1.0 I got this error once before when I upgraded from a previous version of Virtualbox, but I reinstalled my host os and everything seemed to work fine. I installed two vm machines and after I installed nero 8 on the host, this message came up:

Unknown error creating VM (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496a53e}

I uninstalled Nero 8 and tried to run the vm again with no luck. I got the same error. Apparently, that was not what caused the error.

Some of the things I have tried are:

I checked the permissions in safe mode under the Administrators acct. All groups have full control.

I unmounted the dvd/cd drive. Saw a post that having pass through enabled was causing a problem. This didn't help.

Removed usb support. This didn't help.

I made a copy of the .vdi and opened virtual box in my administrators account. This didn't help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

The last thing I tried and now will give up without some advice is to uninstall and reinstall vbox. This also did not help.

Did you try the workaround posted on this bug ticket?

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/2863

It is the VBoxManage command about 2/3 of the way down the ticket.

Still no luck

I finally got the command to work without any errors but I still get the error.

I finally just uninstalled v2.1.0 and installed v2.0.6. Everything is working now.

When will the next release come out? I truly love this program and think that everyone that works on it and all the people that answer questions on this forum are just FANTASTIC!!
