Hello,
I need to prevent Oracle VM VirtualBox Version 6.0.8 r130520 from updating automatically on a user's PC.
I have already tried the basic settings, including disabling updates through File > Preferences > Update, and all update-related options are turned off. Unfortunately, this did not help. Whenever the PC is restarted, VirtualBox seems to update itself automatically.
Normally, I would welcome keeping software up to date, but in this case it is causing a serious problem. The software is being used to run a CNC controller simulation provided by Heidenhain, specifically the Heidenhain iTNC 530 simulation. This simulation will not run on newer versions of VirtualBox and becomes completely unusable after the update.
The target system is Windows 11 Pro.
I understand that VirtualBox 6.0.8 is quite old, but Heidenhain support informed me that they cannot assist with this issue. I have also tried several suggestions generated by AI tools, but none of them worked.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem or found a reliable way to completely block VirtualBox from updating automatically?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Re: Turn off automatic updates old version virtualbox
This must be the result of some other software installing the update. VirtualBox itself does not have auto-update functionality. All it can do is check for available updates, and offer the user to download it. VirtualBox never installs it automatically.
Re: Turn off automatic updates old version virtualbox
If the update setting in VirtualBox is already disabled, I’d check whether something outside VirtualBox is installing the newer version. On Windows 11, it may be worth checking Task Scheduler and installed software management for anything that launches an Oracle/VirtualBox updater at startup.nevrlkad wrote: 4. Sep 2026, 12:04 Hello,

I’d also make sure the old installer is archived somewhere safe, so you can reinstall 6.0.8 if necessary. Since the Heidenhain simulation depends on that specific VirtualBox version, I’d avoid simply blocking all Oracle traffic until you know exactly what is triggering the update.
