Same on Arch Linux, kernel 7.0.12, the whole system just catastrophically freezes when starting any VM, hard reboot required.

7.2.8 works, 7.2.10 is broken.

It doesn't work on Slackware 15 (.run package)

After upgrading to VirtualBox 7.2.10, all VMs failed to start with:

VBoxManage: error: Host API has not enabled SVME bit in EFER MSR. (VERR_SVM_HOST_SVME_NOT_ENABLED)

The host detects AMD-V correctly (lscpu shows AMD-V), and VBoxManage list hostinfo reports hardware virtualization support. VirtualBox kernel modules also load successfully.

Downgrading to 7.2.8 immediately resolved the issue without any other system changes. All VMs start normally again.

Host:

Slackware 15 x86_64
Linux kernel 6.18.35
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

Are the log files still being written to the home folder/user root? I don't see it in the release notes, but it was a big issue in the last release.

No, it's fixed. This one in the changelog:
  • Network: Fixed issue in E1000 emulation code which triggered debug log creation (github:gh-645)
