Hello everyone -
I am having an issue with the display driver crashing consistently on a Windows11 Pro 25H2 VM running through VirtualBox 7.2.6. I am connected to this VM from the host machine through RDP with 3 full screen monitors (full host windows environment). Periodically the Remote Display driver will crash and on the remote connection and RDP will report an unexpected disconnect. This happens perhaps approximately every 1-2 hours.
I have searched online and tried many different things such as forcing hardware gpu resources for remote sessions through Group Policy, tried various combinations of paravirtulization and nested paging settings on the VM (current set to None and enabled, respectively). There are many mentions online of turning off HyperV on the host machine, this is not something that I am interested in performing so this is something that I have no attempted in troubleshooting but am putting here for completeness.
I have attached a screenshot of the error as posted in the Guest Windows Event Viewer. There are no corresponding events on the host.
The guest machine is well-resourced with 4 processors, 12gb of system ram, 256mb of vram allocated, and 3d acceleration enabled. There are no performance concerns on the machine and the host is otherwise not being stressed with other tasks.
Any help or ideas on how to resolve would be amazing. Thank you all so much in advance!
Host specs:
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32gb RAM
Nvidia 4080 GPU (driver: v595.97)

Re: Microsoft Remote Display crashing in Windows11 25H2
Bumping this thread. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
I have consumed the latest 7.2.8 of vbox and the Guest Additions and the issue seems to be now more prevalent. I have had perhaps 3x crashes in the first hour of the machine being powered on alone. I have attached tails of the logs from vbox to this thread as well

Haven't seen other reports unfortunately... until the devs can reproduce the chance of a fix is low.

Maybe related to April update KB5083769?
[Remote Desktop] This update improves protection against phishing attacks that use Remote Desktop (.rdp) files. When you open an .rdp file, Remote Desktop shows all requested connection settings before it connects, with each setting turned off by default. A one-time security warning also appears the first time you open an .rdp file on a device. For more information, see Understanding security warnings when opening Remote Desktop (RDP) files.
