Black screen in game (with 3d enable)

Post by Farmer »

Hello everyone,

I'm glad to join the forum. I have a kind of small issue and am sure there are people who can help me in solving the problem.

I'm currently using

Operating System : Windows 10 Pro (Hyper-V off)
Virtual Box version : 6.0
Guest : Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Guest additions are installed already. My problem is when I want to open a game name Knight Online I get the error Image

Can't Create D3D Device-Please,Check Directx or Display Card Drive

So when I open 3d from Settings-Display . I get black screen in the login section of the game.

With Guest windows 10 I can play the game but still I dont have 3d Acce - so I get 10-15 Fps.

And the Cpu usage is 99-100 which makes me disconnect from the server after a while.

Is it possible to play the game with guest Windows 7 x64?

Thank you.

No matter what you do, you will not be happy using VirtualBox to run games in Windows. Real games in a VBox VM require a real video card and real video drivers from Intel, AMD, or NVidia. VBox has none of those features.

With some work you can get old OpenGL games (Quake 2 era) to "kinda" work in a VBox Windows VM, but OpenGL and the VBox mouse driver do not work well together (the game's view port spends most of its time in a rapid spiral as you work to get your mouse to aim at the Strog).

The current VBOX guest driver does NOT support 3D in a Win 7 VM ("For the basic Direct3D acceleration to work in a Windows guest, you have to install the WDDM video driver available for Windows Vista or later"). You can get 3d to work on Win7 if you pair the Guest Additions from the old version 6.1.42 of Guest Additions with the current VBox 7.2.6. software. Warning -- do not use old versions of the Guest Additions with Win 8, Win 10, Win 11 or current Ubuntu versions if you also use VBox 7.2.6 software. They do not "play" together well.

This old Guest Additions version 6.1.42 will give you Win 3D and OpenGL 2.1 in a Win 7 VM. After all this effort, will be able to play Win 7's MS Solitaire and try to get your mouse to work in Quake2.

Thank you very much for your support.

I guess I have to leave win 7 and continue with win 10 in order to aviod 3d warning.

Thank you.
