@vbicf Can you please supply all setupapi* log files from your host (usually in C:\Windows\INF) when you have reproduced the issue? I'd like to take a look at those.

Installed version 7.2.2 and the install seemed OK. But then trying to start any VM it would throw
Error In supR3HardenedWinReSpawn

NtCreateFile(\Device\VBoxDrvStub) failed: -5657 (rcNt=0xe986e9e7) VBoxDrvStub error: Signature #1/1: Not signed with the build certificate
I looked up how to resolve that issue and:
  1. Uninstalled
  2. Rebooted
  3. Removed files matching C:\Windows\System32\drivers\Vbox*.sys
  4. Reinstalled
And now everything is working. I noticed when I went to delete the driver files that the VBoxUSB.sys had a different modified date than the others, so I wonder if it was stuck where the installer was unable to overwrite an older version.

The driver updating in the installer still needs work, yes. There are multiple reports that upgrading VirtualBox leaves old drivers behind which then cause those errors about not matching signatures.
