I upgrade win11 from 23H2 to 24H2, then in virtualbox 7.0.10, it stuck at the boot screen and not boot. :(

I upgrade to Virtualbox 7.1.4, it did fallback to 22H2.

I have tried with VirtualBox-7.1.5-165995 on a win 11 24H2 host to run as guest win 11 24H2, but at the end of the install just after the reboot i'am stuck with a black screen.

P.S. : i have re-tried, when i get the black screen, i stop the VM (i have disabled the nested virtualisation i dont know if it's usefull here) and re-start it then it show the OOBE, after the first step i get a new black screen then i stop a new time the VM and re-start it. After that it works like a charm

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads < it have 7.1.4 ; where to find 7.1.5 ?

You need to download the 7.1.5 from the testbuilds page : https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds

Madarao1382 wrote: 21. Oct 2024, 11:16 I have successfully upgraded Windows 11 from 23H2 to 24H2. Before I did that I made some configuration changes:

-Settings>System>Processor and turn off checkbox "Enable Nested VT-x/AMD-V"
-Settings>System>Acceleration and turn off checkbox "Enable Nested Paging"
-VBoxManage.exe modifyvm WIN11 --vtx-vpid=off

Same issue with Windows Server 2025 Technical Preview
May I ask where to modify -
-VBoxManage.exe modifyvm WIN11 --vtx-vpid=off

Hello,

The issue seems to be fixed on VirtualBox-7.1.5-165995, is there any chance we can see the commit/change that fixes this?, or, is there any way that we can have access to the VirtualBox-7.1.5-165995 source code to build VirtualBox from source vs installing it through the .run file which is whats provided by the test builds

Thanks so much for your help!

We generally don't spend the time to publish the source tarball for testbuilds - too short lived and takes quite a while to produce.

Of course you can get the change - see the attachment. This is the one from the 7.1 branch.

I am still struggling with this. I have installed 7.1.5-165995 but still finding that installation of WinXP machine is extremely slow and then finally crashes. Was I supposed to take any other action? Thanks in advance for any help.

The solution to this issue is the IT Crowd solution for installing Windows 11 24H2 (did you try turning it off then on again). Windows 11 when shutting down keeps an image of the machine state from the last session as to speed up the startup process. When a Windows 11 machine restarts it refreshes the machine state.

*Helpful advice when a laptop is connected to a docking station you need to disconnect from the docking station before a shutdown.

Anyhow, the issue I think is coming from the Windows 11 24H2 code for restart not having a proper method to communicate a restart with Virtualbox. I'm using version 7.14 r165100.

So while installing Windows 11 24H2 I disabled Nested Vt-x/AMD-V from the Processor tab, disabled Nesting Paging from the Acceleration tab, and watched the VM CPU usage. When installing whenever there was a restart the screen would go black and the VM CPU would skyrocket at this point I closed the VM and selected a full power down, and then I would wait and restarted the Win11 VM which would resume at the next stage of the install. I had to do this for each time the Win11 VM had to restart.
