Command 'rcvboxadd reload' fails when installing Guest Additions

Post by LateJunction »

I'm installing Guest Additions for Linux on Version 7.1.0 of Virtual Box, running in a Win 10 host.

Running the install script VBoxLinuxAdditions.run fails with a message that VirtualBox Guest Additions "cannot reload kernel modules: one or more module(s) is still in use".

It recommends I run "rcvboxadd reload". This fails with the same error message.

I ran 'sudo apt-get instal gcc-12' again and reran the VBoxLinuxAddiiotns. This failed with the same error message and suggested I run ;/sbin/rcvboxadd reload quickstep all'. This resulted in the same error.

I am out of ideas now. How to handle this error condition?

You are not disclosing what your Linux guest system in the VBox is. Is it Debian? The host is irrelevant for the guest additions installation.

Please be specific, I can help if you have an issue with a Debian or its deriviates in VBox.

Beg pardon - I had assumed (apparently incorrectly) that the problem I am experiencing is independent of the particular distro, as it appears to be Linux kernel related. To correct things: I am trying to install Guest Additions in Zorin 17.2. The base OS seems to run without issue, to the best of my understanding.

Too bad, I have no experience with Zorin OS.

May this helps:
You need dkms or another build environment suitable for Zorin. Kernel headers have to be installed on the guest.
