Patience is a Virtue - The Fedora 40 official release was only announced on 23 April, so you will have to wait and see what is made available when the next upgrade to VirtualBox is released, or you can try with the latest Test Build releases - https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds; preferably with Test builds which post-date the Fedora release date.

I know, and I am on Fedora 40 for a month already.

Problem is not the package, same package like for Fedora 39 is working also on 40.

Honestly, it is same package like for Fedora 36, there just need to be created a symlink, for Fedora 40, to be forwarded to same package, same like it was done for 39, half a year ago. :-)

The current VirtualBox RPMs don't work on F40, due to a bump in the libvpx version (see https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/22041 ). The only thing for F40 users to do is to switch from the RPM to installing from the .run file until working RPMs are available for F40.

Edit: Using the F39 repo as cm84 suggests below does work, it pulls in libvpx7 (which doesn't exist in F40) from the F39 repo, although I prefer just switching to the .run file and sticking to F40 packages. For me it wants to install the latest vbox version 7.0.16 which it was recommended to avoid.

Just used the repo for 39 and specify --releasever=39 on the dnf line. It will pull in the necessary libs from the Fedora 39 repos.

I changed $releasever to 39 in the repo file, not strictly necessary but I did it so that I don't get nagged every time I run DNF.

Installed with

Code: Select all

root@p0048-linux:/etc/yum.repos.d# dnf --releasever=39 install VirtualBox-7.0.x86_64
