Black Screen with 3D Acceleration on Ventura Host & Windows Guest

Post by swordsx48 »

Hi hope all are well!

Got a Ventura host here. Had these VMs working perfectly on Monterey.
Now, with 3D acceleration, they go straight to a black screen. I can hear the Windows make a sound so it seems to be running.

With 3D acceleration off, they boot fine, but obviously with limited performance.

I can provide any files needed to diagnose - I don't know if the log would help since it is loading up properly, but here it is!

Any news, happy to listen!

By the way, I think they still open fine in Monterey! If I use a Monterey install and make a new .vbox file pointing to that .vdi, it still works fine!

Definitely something with the new Apple Hypervisor!

I am happy for any feedback. Thanks!

Best to keep discussions in the thread so that others can learn.

I had the same experience as you, so I run windows VMs with 3D acceleration disabled on Ventura and Sonoma. Not ideal but I don't need high performance in the VM.

You can always raise a bug in the bugtracker - https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Bugtracker

Yes, I was pinging you as in to comment here :)

Bug tracker. hm. unfortunate! So it is a common problem with Ventura? With no known fix or workaround? That's odd. I'm surprised there's no stickied thread about it. I also didn't find much on Google or searching here. It must not be affecting everyone then! I'm sure there would be a rampage in that case hahaha
