Can't get Virtualbox VM to boot from ISO

Post by itm »

I have a Windows 11 VM running on Virtualbox v7.0.6. I need to boot into a Gparted ISO to increase the partition size, but I can’t get it to boot to the ISO.
I’ve added the ISO to the VM as an optical drive on the SATA controller. The Optical drive is top of the list in the Boot Order. When I boot, even if I continually press F12, it always boots straight back into Windows 11, rather than the ISO mounted as the optical drive. I’ve checked the ISO and the contents look fine.
Any idea how I can force it to boot from the ISO?

The Boot order settings in the VirtualBox Manager only work with MBR Systems. For EFI Systems you have to boot into the VMs EFI Shell and select to Boot from the attached ISO (CD Drive). Note: You may also need to reset the Boot sequence back to the System Drive after sorting out the partitions with GParted.

To get to the EFI Shell continually press the Escape Key during the VM's Boot sequence - You may have to try this a number of times, as timing is critical.
