GURU MEDITATION a critical error occurred while running the virtual machine

Post by ruham »

When trying to install anything from the Kali Linux installer menu on my Intel Mac, I always encounter this error.

Don't think you're getting much attention for running a completely outdated VirtualBox version (5.2.4 - there are updates to at least 5.2.44 and even version 6.1.x should still work on macOS High Sierra).

In addition to what @klaus said about the version of VirtualBox, you have oversubscribed your VM memory and also not allocated enough Video memory (VRAM)

Code: Select all

00:00:03.383104 Host RAM: 4096MB (4.0GB) total, 1304MB available
00:00:03.748790 RamSize <integer> = 0x000000007d000000 (2 097 152 000, 2 000 MB)
00:00:03.749408 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000001000000 (16 777 216, 16 MB)
You only have 1304MB available on your host so you need to either free up at least 700MB RAM in your host or reduce the VM ram allocation.
You should increase the memory on your VM display adaptor - your memory is tight, so initially try 64MB - if you still experience failure then try 128MB.
