hi all,
i upgraded the guest additions on one of my win7 guests from 6.1.38 to 7.0.14. since then, it wasn't able to boot anymore and stopped pretty early in the process with the windows logo.
i read some topics in here already and understood that this happens with 3D support and/or activated "nested VT-x". i never had 3D support activated. and i played around with the options around PAE/NX, nested VT-x, nested paging and deactivated all peripherals like sound, network, usb. but still, the VM can't boot.
in the meantime i downgraded the GA on that guest to 6.1.38 via the windows safe mode during boot and the machine boots normally.
what could be the problem?
thanks and cheers
benni

Re: Guest Additions upgrade from 6 to 7: guest doesn't boot
I would remove the v6 GAs before upgrading, then fresh install the v7 GAs after the upgrade.
There are major differences in handling GAs between v6 and v7.

thanks for your reply, bill.
that didn't work BUT i played around some more... and it seems, i HAVE to add the 3D support component in the guest additions during the install. then the system boots even though i have no 3D support checked in the VM config. weird.. but works.
thanks
