Guest has an Unexpected IP Address

Post by facebita »

I have installed a minimal Debian 12 guest on a macOS host. After installation of the guest I have entered ip a and have received:

Bildschirmfoto 2024-03-03 um 17.40.06.png (23.23 KiB) Viewed 1922 times
I had expected a IP address of the guest starting with 192.168.XXX.XXX for the guest would being handled as an unique machine within my local network.

What can I do in Virtualbox in order to have the guest being handled an unique machine within my local network?

Looks as though you have the Network Adapter set to use NAT in your VM Settings.
Try switching it to Bridged Adapter.

For macOS Ventura and later this will NOT work if you are using a WiFi adapter, but will work well if you have ethernet.
