GURU MEDITATION

Post by MimMoussa »

I am having a issue with installation of Xubuntu in VM.When I push start, it looks in the preview that is installing the iso, but suddenlt goes from running to "GURU MEDITATION".

I have tried :
1-Install the last version of VM
2-Check in my UEFI that AMDV is enable
3-Have my disk drive 158 freee of 222 GB
4-Tried giving 2048, 3000 and 4000 of my 8GB RAM but nothing changed

Attached a log.

Thanks in advance

Checking the log and the screenshots you've provided; I can suggest two steps here to be taken:
- Update the guest additions: The installed guest additions version is Version 6.0.0 r127566 '6.0.0', while the latest version is 7.0.12 (or 14)
- Check the allocated or assigned memory value and try to make it more (since we can see the page memory is having a hard time being allocated)
- Update the VirtualBox (if it is not the latest version)

Please reach out if the issue persists.

Hello Alex,

- Can you please tell me what do you mean about guest additions version, you mean the Xubuntu version?, how to update that?
- I have 8 GB RAM, I have tried given to the VM, 2048, 3000, 4000 and always the same.
- I have the 7.0.14 and just now tried with old versions as 6.1.50 and Same issue.

Thanks

In the host window menu, open the "Devices" menu item and try using the "Upgrade Guest Additions..." item to upgrade the package.

Please ignore that step at this stage.
Would you please share the amount of CPU and Memory your base system has?
Also, please share with me the average amount of memory usage.
Literally, I want to check if there are enough resources that can fulfill the VM requirements set in Virtualbox.

To elaborate a bit on what Alex H meant in regard to memory:

When you started the VM, your host OS had 2.9 GB available and you provided 2.0 GB to the VM. After VirtualBox allocated 0x81631 pages of memory, which accounts to roughly 2.1 GB, it couldn't get more memory from the host OS. Note that VirtualBox needs a little bit of memory itself, so it's expected that 2.1 > 2.0.

You could try to start the VM soon after rebooting the host. On my own Windows 10 host, ~4 of 8 GB are available before I start any application.

Hello,

Yes, just after rebooting the host, I have available around 3.8 GB. And I start directly the VM and its still same issue and the RAM still showing I have 1.5 GB available.
First picture is just after rebooting the host
Second picture is when I run the VM

Thanks for providing the details.

Let's try the following steps:
- Change the Display -> Graphics Controller type and try
- Set Display -> Video Memory to maximum and try
- Set System -> Acceleration -> Paravirtual Interface to None and try

I tried to reproduce the issue by installing Xubuntu 22.04 on my laptop.
Got no such issues.

What about trying again with a lower-resource assignment? Such as 1 or 2 CPUs and 2048MB of memory or even 1024MB. I have tried with 1 CPU and 1024MB of memory, and it also worked. If it works then might mean you are hitting over the remaining resources, most probably.

Hello Alex, thanks for your feedback

I tried with 1 CPU and 1024MB, with 2 cpu 1024MB, with 2 CPU and 2048mb and all same. for the ones with only 1 CPU and 1024MB it shows me this first picture.

Checking your settings the only difference we have is in the storage, can be this the problem?

Thanks
