Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I have a Brother laser printer on the network and it's not showing up in XP's "Add A Printer" browser. I must have forgotten to do something very basic. Any help would be appreciated.

Network printer
Don't know if this will work for you but I had a similiar problem my Guest OS (XP) would recognize the network but not the printer.
I just set up a seperate network where my printer was and also on the Guest OS and now I can see and print to my printer. I guess what I am doing is by passing the MAC OS Network between it and the printer and using a different one to print with.

You need to use bridging (host interface networking in VirtualBox terms). Set this up and test it (your router should be reachable via pings from within the VM).
Even then it can take some time for printers "to show up", assuming your printer does so on other native XP boxes on the same subnet. Adding it manually (via unc path) should work as well.
